Napier and Hastings

This was wine day. We didn’t get into port until noon and left at 6:00. It took about an hour to get to wine country from where we ported in Napier. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to go into town but it looked great and they are starting a four day celebration called The Art Deco Festival. It commemorates the theme of the 1930s and the type of architecture that is promenade in the town.

We started our wine tour at the Mission Winery which was the first winery in this area. They specialize in whites. It was a little too fruity for me but was well done. The next winery was family owned and called Abbey Winery. Again, whites were prominent. I did find a desert wine that should get me through most of the sailing.

The owner explained the wines as we tasted them. You can see that we are a studious group.

The vineyard at Abbey reminded me of the hillsides in Paso Robles.

People from Napier greeting us as we returned to the ship with vintage cars and a small band. Very cute.

Cheers and good night Joey
