Great Barrier Reef and Cairns

Let’s go back a little. After we left Newcastle, we headed north passing what is called the Gold Coast.

We arrived at Whitsunday Island and headed for the Great Barrier Reef. The images are murky because of the weather conditions.

The next day we arrived at Cairns and traveled to the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. On any given day they will have about 10 species of butterflies flying within the atrium. They have a research center within the complex dedicated to keeping various species populated.

From the sanctuary we travel to the Rainforest Station in Kuranda. It was similar to other wildlife parks with a few additions.

This male saltwater crocodile can grow to 18 feet and is a member of the largest reptile species in the world
Jack, my new Koala Bear buddy.

The city of Cairns is small but it has wonderful park areas and manmade lagoons. There are so many life threatening box jellyfish near the shore that for the safety of swimmers they have constructed these lagoons a sort distance inland.

Now we are up to date.

Cheers and good night Joey.
