We have entered a part of the world very different than anything that I have experienced before. I know that my descriptions don’t begin to provide adequate information. So many of you have much more knowledge. Please join in the conversation to correct anything I get wrong and add more texture and richness.

We repositioned from the east coast of Bali facing the Bali Sea to the southwest coast facing the Indian Ocean. The capital of Denpasar is located here and full of motorcycles with drivers who seem fearless. We drove through to get to our excursions. The added attraction was the celebration of the Balinese New Year which is based on the Balinese calendar that counts 210 days per year. Families were gathering in the streets to walk to their local temples with offerings.
Our excursions included the Taman Ayun Royal Temple in Mengwi located 1 hour from our ship. With 8 different Royal Families responsible for their regions, this Royal complex belongs to a different family than the first one visited in Singarja. Hindu Temple complexes consist of three areas. The outer courtyard is a place for gathering and celebrations.

The middle courtyard holds the bell tower and space to prepare to enter the inner courtyard.

The inner courtyard receives offerings and prayers.

We spent about an hour exploring the area and then headed for the coast to visit the Tanah Lot.

The Temple is inaccessible when the tide is up as it was today.

Our stop at Bali was fascinating. Enjoy some additional images.

Cheers and good night Joey.
