Fukuoka, Japan

One last port in Japan. Due to a number of changes, we came to Fukuoka this morning. The planned excursion was a trip to Karatsu which is a city of about 50,000 people and about 90 minutes from the port.

We first stopped to visit The Tarouemon Nakazato Pottery Studio. It is one of several studios in this area that is an established pottery manufacturer. The work is known for its simplicity of design.

One of the artist that represents the 10th generation of family potters.

Next stop was to a museum that keeps the city’s fall festival floats. The Karatsu Kunchin Festival is held for one week in November. Each float is made of heavy paper and kept in a temperature controlled environment.

These large floats are pulled or carried by dozens of volunteers.

The last stop was to the Kagamiyama Observatory. From the observation deck we had beautiful views of the town of Karatsu and the Kariya Bay.

Gardens covered the area surrounding the observatory.

Many families enjoyed picnics under blooming cherry trees

Of course, a shrine was available for viewing.

Tears always well in my eyes when we leave another part of the world. Japan is no exception. Just a wonderful experience along with Korea.

Cheers and good night Joey.
