Maputo, Mozambique

This capital city hosts a population of over 1 million people. The cosmopolitan Portuguese discovered city has a busy port and is working to improve its downtown infrastructure.

Take a look.

This bridge was built by the Chinese hiring 70% of Chinese workers while Mozambique has a 65% unemployment rate.

Our tour took us to a railroad station with a museum.

We visited a few markets. The food market was the best we had visited with produce fresh and other products wonderfully displayed.

We then saw the Portuguese fort that has been used by several combatants throughout the years.

These artist put together displays to represent various aspects of life in Mozambique.

We then moved on to the roundabout in the center of town.

A monument to Marechal Samora Moises Machel the leader of the independence effort.
Catholic Cathedral

And finally an outdoor curio market.

In this very poor country with starvation a reality, we were treated to a great lunch in a beautiful hotel.

We are always treated to the best of each city. The best of Maputo is warm and welcoming. But, with the high unemployment and an illiteracy rate of 60% this country is struggling to improve its standard of life. I pray for their success.

Cheers and good night Joey.
