Mindel,Cape Verde

Mindel is a port city in the northern part of the island of Sao Vicente. This is one of ten islands that forms an archipelago that together is known as the northern African country of Cape Verde. This was our last African port. The atmosphere was quite different. It was discovered and settled by the Portuguese. Portuguese remains the official language of the country. The economy is more vibrant with a colorful town with so many buildings painted in bright colors.

Main Street had beautifully colorful buildings.

Diogo Alfonso was the first Portuguese explorer to land in Mindel.

Passing the statute, we continued to the fish market.

Fish drying to preserve them for later use.
Many varieties of fish were sold.

It was time for a refreshment so we were treated to a local rum drink, food and a dance performance.

That’s entertainment

The food and entertainment were great.

We then walked the town and finished at their Art Center.

This colorful wall was covered with brightly painted paint can covers.

Another student project. All of the boats were made from shells.

This was a wonderful stop. So colorful and relaxing. It is no wonder that this area is becoming a vacation resort for Europeans.

Cheers and good night Joey.
