Sea rescue

Yep. We received an emergency call that there was a boat in distress in the Atlantic that needed our assistance. so off we went. The following pictures capture some of the effort. It was announced that there were nearly 70 people in the boat. One rumor is that the people were fleeing Africa and became lost in their attempt to reach Europe. I am sure that more rumors will be spread. With the rough seas, it is amazing that the boat did not capsize. Sadly, there were several deaths.

This freighter was the first sighting of any vessel.
As we approach, I did not see the small boat.
You can just see the wooden boat on the left as it started towards us.
It is hard to imagine that this small boat held 70 people. The ocean was so rough that many time we couldn’t see the boat. It was also getting dark.
Darkness had fallen so the ship turned on some powerful lights to keep track of the progress.
After about an hour, they were within 100 yards of our ship.
Precariously docking next to our gangway.

Our crew and the remaining new guests are now safe and secure. Thankfully, we have plenty of food and water.

Our Captain and rescue crew were heroic. In calm waters, this would not have been easy but under these conditions it looked almost impossible.

We are all expect to arrive in the Canary Islands tomorrow.

Cheers and good night Joey
