La Coruna, Spain

Once again, I didn’t stay at the port but chose to go to Historic Santiago de Compostela. This town was established as a pilgrimage destination after the burial of the ashes of Apostle James in this town in the first century C. E. The Cathedral overpowers the adjacent plaza with other important buildings completely surrounding the space.

Cathedral facing the town and plaza.
An attached tower.
Gate through which the faithful can be relieved of all of their sins. The gates are only opened once every 4 to 6 years.
Figures watch over the gate.
St. James altar that covers the casket that holds the ashes of the saint. A stairwell behind the altar allow parishes to see the casket and touch the image of the Saint.
Gateway used by pilgrim on their way to the cathedral.
Chapel of Saint Francis

Lunch was held at a five star hotel that was a hospital under the Monarchy of Fernando and Isabella

Lunch was delicious and the pared wine was tasty.

This Capital town receives tens of thousands of pilgrims each year. Christians have been taking this journey for centuries. Santiago de Compostela is an inspiring and beautiful setting. Great day.

Cheers and good night Joey.
