Great day

Thank you so much for all of the Birthday Wishes. Could only have been better if all of you were with me. 

The day started with a visit to a local family coffee farm-Oka Family Farms. I learned that the more the coffee is roasted the less the caffeine content. There are hundreds of these small independent farms on the Kona coast. Much like our wine country.

We then headed for a short hike at Kaloko-Honokohau National Park. Best know for its green turtles that come to that shore from hundreds of miles away to grow into adulthood. This particular cove keeps them safe from predators.

Finally, we hiked through a private forest called the Kona Cloud Forest Sanctuary. Al, who is the proprietor, spends much of his time helping orphaned Cockatoos to find new homes. Along the hike, we stumbled (literally) over beautiful flowers and trees with huge root systems that run on top of the ground because the lava is so solid that they can’t grow deep roots.
