Ilocos(Salomague), Philippines

We had the pleasure of an early morning performance of singing and dancing greeting us as we reached the port.

We immediately took a bus for about an hour to Vigan City to explore the Spanish influence in the area. The first stop was a visit to Bantay church which was originally built in 1592. It was severely damaged by an earthquake in 2022 and is still under major renovation.

We progressed onto the National Museum Ilocos Sur and had a tour of a complex that displayed local artifacts and highlighted the career of Elpidio Quirino, the 6th President of the Philippines who was born in Vigan.

Next the Pagburnayan Pot Factory.

That rooster was much more interesting than the pottery
One part of what was called the dragon kiln that was about 100 yards long and held 5,000 pots during the firing process.

UNESCO granted distinction to the Calle Crisologo Kamestizo district because of the number of buildings that date back to the Spanish era.
