Kathmandu, second day

Mt. Everest doesn’t want to be seen. We will leave again tomorrow at 5:30 am from the hotel to try to fly over our shy little mountain.

In the meantime, another busy day. We visited the UNESCO World Heritage site of the medieval capital of Bhaktapur that included temples, palaces and squares. Much larger than the Patan complex from yesterday. Later, we walked to the Durban Square to see the Palace of 55 windows and Nyatapola temple.

In the afternoon and evening, we saw the Bodhnath Stupa and the nearby Tibetan Monastery.

Bodhnath Stupa. Very sacred to the Buddhist people. A Monk was asked to bless each of us for long life.

Next was the Tibetan Monastery.

The Tibetan Monastery is the holiest temple in Nepal.
Cremations are held here in honor of the recently deceased. We were in the audience as the body was prepared and the cremation was preformed. The ashes are gathered and released into the adjacent river that flows into the Ganges River.

The day began with another disappointment but turned into a very uplifting and moving day.
