Update on refugees

We have received an update on our newest guests that I thought you might find interesting.

The group of 68 people that were rescued last night consists of three children, two women and 63 men. They had left Senegal 20 days ago in an effort to get to Europe. Their motor stopped working a few days into the trip which meant they were stranded in the Atlantic. Miraculously, a freighter happened to see them and radioed for help. We were closest and, of course, were happy to help. We are having a clothing drive because they have lost everything including their boat.

After we arrive in the Canary Islands tomorrow, the refugees will be under Spanish jurisdiction. I believe they have worked with similarly situated people so this group might actually have reached their goal to make it to Europe and safety.
