Bordeaux second day

Today we headed east to the Dordogne region where the small medieval town of Saint-Emilion is located. It is estimated that there are about 800 wineries in this region. We first enjoyed walking around the town followed by a visit to a local winery.

We passed lots of enticing wineries.

The town was easy to walk with great views. It is named after Emilion who was never really a saint but was so beloved by the community that they decided to name their church and town after him and elevate him to the level of a saint.

Walkway to town.

Bell Tower
View overlooking some of the town
One of the main streets
A former Cloister that has been converted into a gift shop and restaurant.

An area of the town converted caves into wine cellars.

There were beautiful wall carvings.

And now it was time to taste some wine.

This winery has been owned and operated by one family for 13 generations
The processing of grapes.
Learning about their vineyard.
Their wine

A great ending to a very short visit to this region of France.

Cheers and good night Joey.
