Honfluer, France

What a great day! Some of the other passengers went on an excursion to Paris. It was a three hour bus drive each way. I was asked by some friends to join them on a private walking tour of Honfluer. I was so glad that I decided on the walking tour. This town is called the Disneyland of the area because of its ambience and partly because the Disney family moved to the US from this town. Of course, there were churches and wine. But mostly, it was a delightful walk.

Beautiful and full Hydrangeas were everywhere.
You can see the English influence. This is and has been a fishing community with carpenters able to build many of the buildings.

The tour was over but the guide gave us some ideas for other sites to visit. I took off on my own.

Up a very steep hill from the town is Cette Chapel. Every year at this time the fishermen bring models of their ships to the chapel for blessings. This is the interior of the chapel.

I had learned that the town had gathered Impressionist painters encouraged by Eugene Boudin who was also a painter.

You can tell Boudin’s influence.
William the Conqueror landed in this area and became King. The town of Honfluer is establishing a museum to display a replica of his ship.

So sad to be leaving the mainland of Europe. Each port from Portugal through France has been fun with unique experiences. Got to return.
